Dr. Jerry Vines accepted the call to pastor First Baptist Church, Jacksonville,FL, in July 1982 and retired in February of 2006. He was elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention in both 1988 and 1989. He traveled the country preaching and teaching the Bible at churches, conferences, and denominational meetings.

DR. JERRY VINES served as pastor at First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL from 1982-2006. In addition to his pastoral service, Vines served two terms as President of the Southern Baptist Convention. A native of Car­rollton, GA, Vines was educated at Mercer University (B.A.), New Orleans Theological Seminary (B.D.), and Luther Rice Seminary, (Th.D.). He and his wife, Janet, have four children: two daughters (Joy and Jodi), and two sons (Jim and Jon). He has a son-in-law, Evangelist Tim Williams, and a daughter-in-law, Leslie Vines. He and Mrs. Vines also have seven grand­children: Brittney, Ashlyn, Jay, Caroline, Catherine, Jack, and Carson.
